Machining facade panels
- cutting fiber cement panels
- V-slots in aluminium composite panels
- drilling holes in HPL panels
- contour milling in Rockpanel
- and rounding, notching, undercutting, slot milling and countersinking
- and much more
CNC technology is a vital tool in facade construction. A large-format portal milling machine from vhf can, for example, process a wide range of facade panels in very different ways.
Regardless of the facade system you are working with, vhf provides the right CNC milling machine for facade construction. The modern, powerful drive units, sophisticated controls and smart software offer almost unlimited possibilities for all the common tasks in facade construction.
The suitable vhf machine for facade construction
Machining facade panels has never been easier than with a vhf milling machine! Find the perfect enhancement for your manufacturing:
Active Pro
For working on large panels. The vhf Active Pro is a machine with an almost unlimited selectable Positioning range and extensive equipment options at a particularly attractive price-performance ratio.
Machining of HPL panels
The machining of HPL panels is a standard application of milling machines from vhf. Contour milling, drilling, chamfering and much more is no problem with the portal milling machines.
The video shows the machining of an HPL panel, which is often used in facade construction or interior finishing of campers or boats. The panel is fixed on a vacuum table and machined with a solid carbide milling cutter available in the vhf online shop.
Machining of aluminium composite sheets
Milling machines from vhf are perfectly suitable for processing aluminium composite sheets. With the V-slot cutter for aluminium composites, grooves are milled into the material. Drilling and milling of the outer contour complete the machining process.
The video shows the production of a cassette, as it is often used in facade constructions. The panel is fixed on a vacuum table.

FAQ facade construction
What should be kept in mind when it comes to the milling strategy?
Cooling and extraction – yes or no?
Facade construction uses a wide range of materials compared to numerous other industries, where one or several materials are generally used. Therefore, when responding to this question, we must first define what materials we wish to process.
For many materials, the use of the cooling effect of our efficient extraction system is sufficient for this purpose. The required cooling effect and an excellent extraction performance is achieved with the airflow generated and the rapid removal of chips and dust.
For most aluminum alloys, we recommend cooling during machining. This extends the service life, i.e. the life of your tools, and also improves the edge quality of the workpieces. The combination of cooling and our efficient extraction system is a smart approach that has both the advantages of cooling and those of efficient extraction. You can therefore benefit from a significantly reduced cleaning effort and improved milling results.
Should you include a finishing step?
The unfinished edge is adequate for many applications in facade construction, and this additional work step is therefore not generally required. Users can select a finishing pass in individual cases for products with a strong focus on the visible edge to further optimize the edge quality. In most cases, you will achieve a particularly good result with a material removal of 0.1 – 0.2 mm.
What milling parameters make the most sense?
The setting of feed rate, rotational speed and material removal depends on various factors. On the one hand, the milling machine and the milling spindle used provide specific framework data. On the other, factors including the material, material thickness and the tool diameter, etc. should also be taken into account. Users must also consider cooling, lubrication and extraction. We will not therefore quote static values at this point. We recommend a consultation with our competent tool sales department which quickly provides individual advice.
What is the most efficient way of fixing my workpieces/panels or plates?
You can clamp your workpieces most efficiently using the vhf vacuum table, which uses vhf vacuum technology to fix panels or plates tensio-free onto the milling machine. You can therefore mill through-holes and outer contours easily with minimal effort and setup time.
